Helsinki region
The Helsinki Region has a population of 1.2 million living in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kaunianen and neighbouring municipalities. This represents almost one quarter of the entire Finnish population living in one of the fastest growing economic centres in the EU.
Helsinki
Helsinki is the modern capital of Finland and home to 560,000 residents. Helsinki is also a European city of culture where the Finnish urban lifestyle interacts with nature. Surrounded by the sea and archipelago, Helsinki offers companies a multitude of opportunities.
Helsinki is a city of contrasts. Throughout its 450-year history Helsinki has been shaped by influences from both the East and West. The colourful layers of the past can be seen everywhere.
Contemporary Helsinki lives already in the future. Modern architecture, design and high technology have created international recognition for the city. The unique Helsinki lifestyle and trendy urban subcultures are integral parts of this international metropolis today.
The freedom of choice offered by the urban nature of Kalasatama extends to transportation. The planning of the area has emphasised the importance of good accessibility, both by private cars and by public transportation. At the heart of the area's transportation infrastructure lies the new Kalasatama Metro Station, which provides convenient access for passengers to the city centre and other parts of Helsinki . Private car owners are also being catered to with a comprehensive range of parking alternatives.
Kalasatama is being developed amidst an existing and efficient urban infrastructure. Thousands of people already work in the area. The construction work will stretch from the office areas located around the metro station along the shorelines to the North and South. Approximately 100,000 square metres of new office space is being built in the immediate vicinity of the metro station alone. The city blocks are being designed in a variety of shapes and sizes, offering suitable alternatives for both small local entrepreneurs and major global corporations alike.
A wide range of plots and ready office space is also available, either with views to the sea or without. The new office spaces have been designed to be flexible and they offer the very latest data communications solutions, as well as customisable property maintenance and office service packages. The business life in the area promises to be diverse. Shops, boutiques and various services will be housed on street level, blending in elegantly with the historic industrial buildings and contemporary architecture.
Kalasatama will be unique – an inspiring new commercial and residential environment. Modern office buildings will rise out of historic industrial quarters, creating fascinating new kinds of dialogue. Science, art and services. Domestic and international companies. Modern offices and cosy boutiques.
This dynamic appeal both inspires and fascinates – think of an apartment by the sea in the heart of the capital. The entire functionality of the area is being transformed as previously closed industrial and harbour facilities are being liberated for residential and recreational purposes. Shoreline promenades, green parks, attractive canals and seaside villas will change Vanhakaupunki ( Old Town ) Bay into an attractive maritime district. A place for people to enjoy.
Kalasatama will be home to 15,000 residents and the workplace of 10,000 professionals.
Kalasatama is an integral part of the high-technology hub situated around Vanhakaupunki ( Old Town ) Bay. It connects the science-art-industry axis that runs through the districts of Arabianranta, Kumpula, Viikki and Vallila. Even the “Wall Street” of Finland , Teollisuuskatu connects directly to Kalasatama.
The best location in town and a stimulating environment will come together to attract leaders in all fields to these shores.
